VENTURA — October 26, 2026. The city is developing a Pierpont Beach Management Plan to address problems residents know well: shoreline erosion, storm flooding, drifting sand, changes to public beach access and effects on nearby property.
What the city is studying
The planning work, funded through the California State Coastal Conservancy, will examine how sand moves along Pierpont Beach and produce conceptual designs for management measures, potentially including living-shoreline features intended to benefit the beach and surrounding habitat. Preliminary work indicates the beach has been narrowing in both summer and winter.
What’s happened and what’s next
Ventura held a first community meeting at Pierpont Elementary School on October 21, where residents were invited to review existing conditions and early design concepts. That date has passed; this story does not tell readers to attend that old meeting. The city says additional participation opportunities will follow, including a community-based organization mini-grant program planned for spring 2027.
The plan does not mean a seawall, sand-replenishment project or coastal permit has already been approved. Public involvement, environmental reviews, design, agency coordination and future funding would need to be verified for specific construction proposals.
For future meetings, consult Ventura’s local coastal planning page or contact project manager Joe Yahner at 805-652-4558.
